about LWS

LOCALLY ROOTED.
PROFESSIONALLY DRIVEN.
We have been locally owned and operated since 1999, offering environmentally friendly, cost-effective waste and recycling solutions to Central Ohio. We provide weekly service to over 150,000 residential customers and businesses across our region.

LWS has grown from a single truck operation to a fleet of over 75 vehicles and 150 dedicated team members, and we are now operating from a brand new, 10,000 square foot state of the art facility in Franklin county. This 16 acre property also includes a newly renovated 22,000 square foot maintenance shop, cardboard recycling process center and transfer station, along with new on-site Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) filling stations. April of 2024 marks our 25 year anniversary!

history
April 1999

Local Waste Services is founded by brothers Richard “Rick” and Larry “Chuck” Cattran — along with their father, Larry Cattran and industry investors. The brothers purchase unit 300, an old Residential rear-load truck, and began picking up their neighbors trash. Meanwhile, their father expands the business by going door-to-door, signing up new customers while taking customer service calls from the car. Word of mouth recommendations travelled fast. The company begins to grow throughout Fairfield and Franklin counties in central Ohio.
winter 1999

With a short but proven track record of quality service, LWS is awarded its first exclusive municipal contract in Blendon township. By years end Local Waste Services moves into its first office building and maintenance shop in Franklin county. The company purchases an old roll-off truck and expands its offerings to new industrial customers.
Spring 2002

After a couple years of rapid growth and earning more municipal contracts, LWS obtains its first commercial customers through a corporate acquisition. Now equipped with a fleet of front-load vehicles, LWS becomes a full-service waste and recycling hauling company.
Spring 2004

LWS purchases the first 10 acres of its property in Southern Franklin County near High Street and I-270. The once Columbus airport hangers and offices are adapted to facilitate the company’s expansion. Over the next decade Local Waste Services becomes established as Central Ohio’s premier waste and recycling hauler.
summer 2014

LWS invests in its efforts to provide environmentally friendly services while remaining cost effective. The first of many vehicles powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is purchased; operating nearly 100% emissions free. LWS also builds a 10,000 square-foot cardboard recycling process center and transfer station.
Fall 2018

The largest projects to-date come together all at once for LWS. The company moves into its new, 10,000 square foot, state of the art facility. The 12,000 square foot maintenance shop is renovated inside and out, including the building of an additional service bay. LWS purchases an additional 6 acres connected to the current property and begins filling stations.
winter 2021

As the company advances so does the technology. LWS installs the latest video monitoring systems to its entire fleet of trucks—ensuring the highest safety standards in our communities and providing customers with live service updates.
summer 2024

To keep the highest quality fleet on the streets and cultivate the best working environment for our hard working team — LWS builds a second brand new 15,000 sq ft maintenance facility from the ground up. Along with other HQ upgrades, the company continues to push the standards of premier waste and recycling services in central Ohio for everyone.
